Finished!

I just finished uploading all of my screenshots and participating in the discussion forum! I'm looking forward to using all of the things that I've learned over the past 3 weeks!

Going Forward

Going forward how will you use these tools: Wiki, blog, video w/ Photo Story, google reader, and glog as you go forward from this class?

Ways to use a Wiki:
- great way to collaborate with teachers on a project and cut down on e-mails going back and forth
- great place to keep notes and share documents so that everyone can have access to them.

Just today, two teachers and I were talking about creating a training for teachers using Glogster and posting the glogs on a Wiki for all of te teachers to have access to.

Look at this: 50 Ways to Use Wikis for a More Collaborative and Interactive Classroom

Ways to use a Blog:
- I've been dreaming of starting a book review blog for kids/by kids - I just need to do it!
- I've also been wanting to start a library blog to journal what goes on in my library
I love the idea that writing on a blog gives kids an audience and allows them to write in real time.

Look at this: 33 Ways to Use Blogs in Your Classroom and the Educational Setting (from Web 2.0 in the Classrooms)

Ways to use PhotoStory:
- I'll just love using PhotoStory for library orientation instead of making a PowerPoint that I need to narrate over and over!
- This will be a tool for students to use to make a product! I love that there is the opportunity to record your own voice. What a great way to build fluency!

Ways to Use Google Reader:
What a timesaver Google Reader is - gathering all of my favorite blogs in one place to read is much easier and efficient than going to each one to see if it's been updated.

Ways to Use Glog:
- A glog would be a fun way to share project requirements with students! I can't wait to plan a project that I'll use a glog to communicate the project requirements!

I've really enjoyed this class. I'd love to take 7 Things Part II!

The Middle

I'm enjoying watching Betty White play a librarian on ABC's The Middle. In this evening's episode, 2nd grader, Brick, finds out he will not move to 3rd grade because he has 31 overdue books. Here's a little snippet...Enjoy!

Book Review

Lilly is a spunky little mouse who loves everything about school, especially her teacher, Mr. Slinger. Lilly comes to school one day especially excited to show everyone her new purple plastic purse but is heartbroken, and then furious, when Mr. Slinger takes it away because she interrupts class to show it off. Lilly writes Mr. Slinger an ugly note, slips it into his bookbag and stomps out of class. Imagine her chagrin when she later discovers a sweet note and a bag of snacks in her purse after Mr. Slinger gives it back to her. Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse is a wonderful story of forgiveness and moving on after making a mistake.

Another Wiki!

I took a few minutes just now and created a wiki for our worship team at church! It dawned on me the other day how much a wiki would facilitate communication. There are so many details to attend to when planning a worship service, and we e-mail back and forth, but often each person only sees one little piece of the whole. Having everything on the wiki will enable everyone to have access to all of the information and be able to respond, add, edit, and comment. Our worship team meets tomorrow evening. I can't wait to show them!

Blog Topic Week One: What is the Difference Between a Blog and a Wiki?

How blogs and wikis are the same:
-both are forms of online communication
-both share information
-both can be done for free
-both can be created/maintained fairly easily

Blogs:
-blogs are personal entries usually made by a single person
-blog entries are called posts
-followers can comment on posts
-entries are chronological

Wikis:
-wikis are collaborative
-followers are encouraged to edit/update/contribute information on a wiki
-entries are not chronological (although the wiki maintains a list of when the wiki was recently edited).
